Title: A Film Journey to the States

 

INT. KMOS RED DIGITAL STUDIO CONTROL ROOM- DAY

 

Chaeyeon, a 22-year-old Korean exchange student, turns the master volume down on an audio console at the audio booth. 

 

The voice of Leilani, a director of the studio show, flows through the speaker. 

 

LEILANI-

“OKAY. WE’RE DONE. LET’S GO DOWN TO THE STUDIO.”

 

Chaeyeon checks the time on her phone and the clock on her phone says it’s 04:28 PM. Chaeyeon stands up and turns all the power off in the audio booth. 

 

Chaeyeon-

“NOW IT’S TIME.”

 

Chaeyeon turns off the lights of the audio booth and walks out of the booth to the studio. In front of the studio, Chaeyeon stretches out and takes a deep breath with a tired face. 

 

Chaeyeon-

“OH, I’M TIRED. IT’S BEEN A LONG DAY.”

 

Nathalie, a 21-year-old college student with brown wavy hair, puts her hand on Chaeyeon’s shoulder and sighs.

 

NATHALIE-

“I KNOW, RIGHT? PRODUCTION TUESDAY.”

 

Chaeyeon laughs and links her arm with Nathalie. Chaeyeon and Nathalie walk into the studio together. 

 

Sam, a 22-year-old college student with bleached bangs, walks toward Chaeyeon and Nathalie from the stage. 

 

All the students working at KMOS clean up the studio and get ready to go home. 

 

Leilani puts her hands together and coughs to get everyone’s attention at the studio.

 

NATHALIE-

“OKAY DIRECTOR?”

 

LEILANI-

“THANK YOU NAT. SO, I ENJOYED TODAY’S EPISODE. IT WAS PRETTY SMOOTH. I TRIED TO GET SOME REACTION SHOTS, AND I THINK IT WORKED REALLY WELL. APPRECIATE YOU ALL!”

 

All the students at the studio clap their hands and leave the studio except Sam and Chaeyeon. Sam turns all the lights off at the studio and turns their head to Chaeyeon.

 

SAM-

“YOU READY FOR THE INTERVIEW?”

 

CHAEYEON-

“OF COURSE. I’VE BEEN READY.”

 

Both Sam and Chaeyeon laugh. Sam locks the studio door and walks up to the KMOS meeting room after Chaeyeon. 

 

Chaeyeon sits on a couch in the meeting room. She looks like she is worried about the noise in the room.

 

Sam comes and sits on the couch in front of Chaeyeon. 

 

CHAEYEON-

“DON’T YOU THINK IT IS TOO LOUD?”

 

SAM-

“IT IS LOUD… DO YOU WANT TO GO INSIDE TO THE EDITING BAY?”

 

CHAEYEON-

“THAT SOUNDS BETTER THAN HERE. LET’S DO THE INTERVIEW IN THERE. OH, BY THE WAY, IT WON’T TAKE TOO LONG.”

 

SAM-

“NO WORRIES, LET’S DO IT.”

 

Sam and Chaeyeon stand up and walk into the editing room. They sit down on a couch and Chaeyeon starts recording on her phone.

 

CHAEYEON-

“JUST FOR THE ACC-URA-CY. ACCURACY… IS THIS RIGHT?”

 

Chaeyeon struggles with the pronunciation of the word. Sam smiles and helps her. 

 

SAM-

“ACCURACY.”

 

CHAEYEON-

“THANK YOU. OKAY, SO LET’S START THE INTERVIEW.”

 

Chaeyeon opens her laptop and looks at her question list. 

 

CHAEYEON-

“SO, WHAT’S YOUR MAJOR AND WHAT YEAR ARE YOU IN COLLEGE?”

 

SAM-

“I’M A DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTION MAJOR WITH AN EMPHASIS IN DIGITAL CINEMA AND I’M A SENIOR.”

 

CHAEYEON-

“THANK YOU. THEN, WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO CHOOSE THIS MAJOR IN COLLEGE?

 

SAM-

“WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I STARTED LEARNING BEGINNING JOURNALISM AS A FRESHMAN.”

 

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. HIGH SCHOOL OF MICHIGAN - AUDITORIUM - DAY

 

Sam, a high school sophomore with short brown hair, runs a camera at the high school auditorium.

 

A bunch of high school students fill the auditorium and the president of the high school delivers a speech.

 

V.O. SAM-

“AND THEN I TOOK ADVANCED CLASS WHICH WAS LIKE A BROADCASTING CLASS. WHAT WE DID WAS LIKE A LIVE SHOW WITH 3 CAMERAS TO THE WHOLE SCHOOL EVERY DAY.”

 

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. HIGH SCHOOL OF MICHIGAN - FOOTBALL FIELD - DAY

 

Sam, a high school junior with medium-length brown hair, reports a news story in front of a camera.

 

V.O. SAM-

“ALSO, WE MADE VIDEOS LIKE STORIES AND LITTLE NEWS EVERY TWO WEEKS. SO, I BASICALLY GOT INTO IT IN HIGH SCHOOL AND LOVED IT SO MUCH. THAT MADE ME THINK THAT I AM GOING TO KEEP DOING THIS IN COLLEGE.”

 

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. KMOS RED DIGITAL STUDIO EDITING ROOM- DAY

 

SAM-

“THROUGH MY TEACHER’S RECOMMENDATION, I CHOSE UCM DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTION.”

 

CHAEYEON-

“AWW. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT EXPERIENCE BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL. THEN, COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO BE IN THE FUTURE?”

 

Sam holds their chin up and smiles. 

 

SAM-

“I HAVE GOT REALLY INTO PRODUCING MOVIES. SOMEHOW IT COULD BE A SMALL FILM COMPANY OR MAYBE A TV STUDIO.”

 

DISSOLVE TO:

INT.HALLWAY OUTSIDE OF KMOS MASTER CONTROL ROOM - DAY

 

A digital clock in the master control room next to the KMOS meeting room flows quickly like a time-lapse. All the live videos on the screen also flow quickly.

 

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. KMOS RED DIGITAL STUDIO EDITING ROOM- DAY

 

CHAEYEON-

“I BELIEVE YOU CAN BE A NICE PRODUCER. I CAN TELL WITH YOUR ENTHUSIASM RIGHT NOW.”

 

Sam blushes and shakes their hands.

 

SAM-

“AWW, YOU’RE SO KIND!”

 

Chaeyeon closes her laptop and stops recording on her phone. 

 

CHAEYEON-

“IT WAS REALLY NICE TO HAVE INTERVIEWED YOU. EVEN THOUGH IT’S JUST FOR MY ASSIGNMENT, YOUR RESPONSES WERE INSPIRING. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH, SAM.”

 

Sam stands up from the couch.

 

SAM-

“NO PROBLEM! ANYTIME.”

 

Sam leaves the editing room and Chaeyeon writes some notes on the couch alone.

 

CUT TO:

EXT. OUTSIDE OF THE ENTRANCE OF KMOS - SUNSET TIME

 

Chaeyeon, wearing a big backpack, walks out of the building and puts her airpods into her ears. She plays ‘For You’ by LeeHi on her phone.

 

The song flows as background music.

 

Chaeyeon walks down the street with a satisfied look on her smile.
